A new meta study from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has found that homeopathy does not work.
The researchers looked at 68 conditions which homeopathy has been used to treat, including asthma, flu, cholera and heroin addiction.
“No good-quality, well-designed studies with enough participants for a meaningful result reported either that homeopathy caused greater health improvements than a substance with no effect on the health condition (placebo), or that homeopathy caused health improvements equal to those of another treatment,” the report’s summary states.
The paper did not include, however, the use of homeopathic vaccines used for protection. The co-founder of Friends of Science in Medicine (FSM), Professor John Dwyer, said this is an area of concern.
“In my point of view as an immunologist, the most serious issue was the spreading of the concept that homeopathic vaccinations were harmless and just as good as orthodox vaccinations. People who believe that are not protecting themselves and their children,” he told The Guardian.
The NHMRC wil be releasing the paper on May 26.
